Militants active online but police on alert: DMP chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said today that they are on guard for the Durga Puja, as militants are active on the internet.

"We are not seeing too much of a risk ahead of Durga Puja festivities but not dismissing concerns either," he stated while visiting Dhakeshwari Temple to inspect security measures.

"They (militants) are giving multiple posts (on their platforms )... But we do not have any solid information whether anyone is trying to do anything after being instigated," Shafiqul declared when responding to a query.

The DMP director urged everyone to follow the health safety rules and to cooperate with police throughout the festival.

The main temples are under CCTV surveillance. Patrol teams are in place to keep an eye on the smaller mandaps He added.
